Outlook 2000, Outlook Express 5+ POP3 Setup

To configure Outlook 2000 or Outlook express versions 5 and up to use an email account provided by 270net Technologies just follow the directions below.  The configuration steps for both Outlook Express and Outlook are nearly identical.

First click on "Tools" in the file menu, and then select "Accounts" as shown below.

In the Internet Accounts property sheet, select the "Mail" tab, and then add a new mail account by clicking on the "Add" button as shown below.

The "Internet Accounts" properties sheet will appear.
--Begin by typing a value into the "Display Name" text box.  You may enter anything you want here, such as you full name.  Click "Next" to continue.
--In the next properties sheet, enter the full email address of the account being set up.  Be sure to include the parts before and after the @ symbol.  Click "Next" to continue.

The next property sheet is where you will specify the email servers to send and receive mal from. Type the names of the POP3 and SMTP servers that were given to you via email when the email account was created.  Click "Next" to continue.  If you have not received the names of the email servers, please send a request to 270net so we can get you started!

After clicking "Next", the wizard will bring you to the properties sheet to where email account information is entered so 270net's mail servers can identify your account to send and receive email.
--In the "Account Name:" text box, enter your full email address.  It is really important to include the parts before and after the @ symbol.
--Enter your password in the "Password" text box.  If you do not have a password, use an initial password of "password" (without the quotes) to get started.  Don't forget to immediately change your password using our web-based email program to ensure your new account's security.
--Remember, passwords are case-sensitive!  Click "Next" to continue.

After the email account information has been filled out, you are almost ready to finally begin using your new email account!  The last step is as follows:

  • After finishing the wizard, Outlook should bring you right back to the Internet Accounts property sheet.  If not, just follow the steps in the beginning of this page to locate your new account configuration.
  • Once you have located your account, highlight the account and select "Properties"
After selecting "Properties", Outlook will bring you to a new properties sheet with five tabs, "General", "Servers", "Connection", "Security", and "Advanced".  In these tabs are all the account information that the wizard previously filled out for you.  We need to make one small change in here.

To finalize your account settings:
--Select the "Servers" tab.
--At the bottom of this property sheet, make sure the check box for "My server requires authentication is selected.  By default, both versions of Outlook generally do *not* have this selected.  This is very important, because 270net's mail servers will not allow you to send email with the check box selected.
--Click settings, and confirm that the radio button "Use the same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected.
--Click "OK", close Outlook and then re-open the program to start using your email.  That wasn't too bad now was it!  If you have further questions or concerns contact 270net Support
